Troubleshooting Morton Water Treatment Systems

NO SOFT WATER
Possible Causes | Solutions | |
---|---|---|
1. | No salt in the storage tank. | Refill with Morton Clean and Protect, Morton Clean and Protect Plus Rust Defense or Morton Pure and Natural pellets and initiate immediate recharge. |
2. | A dirty, clogged or damaged nozzle and venturi. | Take apart, clean and inspect the nozzle and venturi. |
3. | The inner valve is causing a leak. | Replace the seals and rotor. |
4. | The valve drain hose is plugged. | Remove any kinks, sharp bends or water flow blockages in the hose. |
5. | The brine valve float is dirty or defective. | Clean or replace the brine valve float. |
6. | There is a leak between the valve and the resin tank assembly. | Replace the tank valve O-rings. |
NO SOFT WATER AND THE DISPLAY IS BLANK
Possible Causes | Solutions | |
---|---|---|
1. | The transformer is unplugged at wall outlet or the power cable is disconnected. The transformer or power cord is defective. | Check for loss of power and fix. Reset clock and use the "Recharge Now" feature. |
2. | The outlet fuse has blown, the circuit breaker popped or the circuit is switched off. | Replace the fuse, reset the circuit breaker switch the circuit on and use the "Recharge Now" feature. |
3. | The electronic control board is defective. | Replace electronic board. Call customer service for assistance with a warranty claim or directions on how to purchase. |
NO SOFT WATER AND THE SALT LEVEL IS NOT DROPPING
Possible Causes | Solutions | |
---|---|---|
1. | The salt in storage tank bridged. | Break the salt bridge. |
2. | The bypass valve is in bypass position. | Pull out stem in bypass to valve. |
3. | The water hardness set too low. | Adjust hardness level. |
WATER IS HARD SOMETIMES
Possible Causes | Solutions | |
---|---|---|
1. | The time setting is wrong. | Check and change time setting. |
2. | Water being used when the water softener is regenerating. | Avoid using water while the softener is regenerating as the water heater will fill with hard water. |
3. | Possible increase in water hardness. | Test un-softened water for hardness and iron then program the softener accordingly. |
4. | A leaking faucet or toilet valve. Excessive water usage. | Fix all leaks and always fully close faucets. A small leak will waste hundreds of gallons of water in a few days. |
THE MOTOR STALLED OR CLICKING
Possible Causes | Solutions | |

1. | The motor is defective or inner valve is jammed causing high torque on motor. | Replace motor or rotor/seal. |
THE DISPLAY IS SHOWING ERROR CODE E1, E2, E3 OR E4
Possible Causes | Solutions | |
---|---|---|
1. | Wiring harness or connection to position switch. | Replace the wiring harness or connection to position switch. |
2. | The switch isn't working. | Replace the switch. |
3. | The valve is jammed causing high torque | Replace the rotor seal. |
4. | The motor is inoperative | Replace the motor. |
Procedure for removing error code from display:
- Unplug transformer
- Correct problem
- Plug in transformer
The error code will return if the problem was not corrected.
